APRI is seeking a dynamic and strategic Communications Associate to join our team in Abuja. This role is pivotal in positioning the Institute as a leading voice in global policy discourse. You will be responsible for bridging the gap between high-level research and public engagement, ensuring that our insights reach key stakeholders in Africa, Germany, and Europe.

The ideal candidate blends operational excellence - managing the day-to-day pulse of our digital presence - with conceptual creativity, helping us move beyond traditional reporting toward "personified storytelling" and innovative narrative shaping.

Important: kindly submit your application via the Google form only (forms.gle/o2Ls7tkMiocm7LnW7).

Your tasks

1. Strategic Leadership & Narrative Shaping
  • Strategy Development: Map and analyze key stakeholders to tailor communication strategies that increase APRI’s visibility in relevant policy circles.

  • Narrative Innovation: In collaboration with researchers, actively distill APRI research to extract compelling statistics, facts, and trends; develop creative storytelling approaches and data-driven narratives that make complex findings more accessible, visual, and engaging for a diverse global audience.

  • Brand Stewardship: Maintain a consistent visual and narrative identity across all platforms, ensuring alignment with APRI’s mission and values.

2. Operational & Media Management
  • Social Media Hub: Oversee the daily management of all social media channels. You won't just post; you will elevate our strategy to drive meaningful engagement and growth.

  • Content Creation: Write and edit high-impact press releases, blog posts, and articles. Oversee the production of multimedia content that translates complex scientific and policy data into digestible formats; basic video editing skills are a strong plus.

  • Engagement Coverage: Support communications and media coverage for key stakeholder engagements including government meetings, workshops, courtesy visits, and other relevant engagements

3. Event Logistics & Promotion
  • Hybrid Event Planning: Create the communication and logistical strategy for hybrid events, seminars, and workshops.

  • End-to-End Guest Management: Manage the full invitation lifecycle for events and webinars - from drafting personalized high-level invitations and managing RSVP databases to post-event engagement.

  • Promotion: Execute multi-channel marketing campaigns (email, social, and digital) to drive registration and ensure high-level attendance from stakeholders and media.

  • Execution: Coordinate with vendors, speakers, and sponsors to ensure seamless event delivery

4. Internal Coordination & Evaluation

  • Team Integration: Work as a core member of the global Communications Team, interfacing with APRI’s research programmes, as well as external service providers.

Strategic MEL & Data Optimization: Design and implement comprehensive Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) frameworks to track performance across social media and digital platforms, as well as specific impact metrics for events and webinars (e.g., attendee demographics, engagement depth, and conversion). You will analyze these metrics to generate data-driven reports for senior management, using the findings to proactively adjust content strategies, refine event processes, and optimize APRI’s global reach and audience engagement.

Your profile

  • Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or digital marketing (preferably within a policy, research, or NGO environment).

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field.

  • Skills: * Exceptional writing and editing skills in English.

    • Social Media & Analytics: Expert proficiency in Metricool (or similar management tools) and social media analytics to drive data-informed decisions would be an asset

    • Design & Visuals: Proficiency in Canva is required to create compelling data visualizations and social media assets; experience with Adobe Creative Suite (such as Illustrator, Photoshop, or Express) is a strong plus. Familiarity with basic video editing tools (e.g., CapCut) is also a distinct advantage.

    • Communication & Marketing Tools: Hands-on experience with newsletter platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Beehiiv), invitation management systems, and building/maintaining mailing lists for press and partners.

    • Hybrid Event Technicals: Experience in organizing hybrid events

    • A "creative-first" mindset with the ability to turn dry data into compelling stories.

Attributes: Highly organized, proactive, and capable of working independently while remaining integrated into a global team.
